Paint it Purple

October is filled with festivities and events to support the awareness of many causes. I joined Alpha Chi Omega 6 years ago, and therefore October’s have been spent raising awareness for Domestic Violence. I hold this philanthropy close to my heart, and so does my family. Both of my sisters ran a 5K this weekend to raise money for Domestic Violence Awareness. My little sister has even taken her passion for raising awareness to a level where she presents about the topic for 4-H and her Girl Scout Gold project.  My family is not the only ones passionate about raising awareness for DV. There is a huge blog party going on right now that is raising money for DVA. When I spotted the Paint it Purple blog project about raising awareness through blogging and cupcakes- I couldn’t resist helping, and getting my family involved! I will let my little sister tell you all about the project and what we are doing today to help:

The Pixel Project’s “Paint It Purple” campaign is a global campaign held throughout October 2010 to:

  • Raise awareness about Domestic Violence (DV) and other forms of Violence Against Women (VAW) around the world.
  • Raise funds for The Pixel Project, our partners and participating VAW organisations around the world.

Domestic Violence, a common term described as a man hitting a woman, but this is not all the word means. The true definition of Domestic Violence is a relationship where one person tries to take power or seek control over their partner or their own life. This could be adult to adult, adult to child, teen to teen or any other possible situation. Domestic Violence also is not just physical such as being hit, kicked, slapped, or punched. It may be mental such as being teased or name called, or it may even be sexual such as being forced to have unprotected sex or viewing women or men as objects. For more information on Domestic Violence please visit the Domestic Violence Hotline Website at or call their 24/7 hotline at 1.800.799.SAFE (7233). of course if you are in any danger please call 9-1-1 immediately.

Go bake some purple cupcakes, sell them at a bake sale, raise money for domestic violence awareness, or donate the cupcakes to a local shelter. I would love to see your photos!
